Rule of Law Must Prevail in El-Rufai Case — Timi Frank

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has called on authorities to uphold the rule of law and ensure due process in the ongoing case involving former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

Frank made the call in a statement issued on Friday, stressing that every Nigerian, regardless of political affiliation or status, deserves fair treatment under the law.

He urged security agencies and relevant institutions handling the matter to remain professional, transparent and guided by constitutional provisions in all their actions.

According to Frank, while anti-corruption efforts and accountability in governance are necessary, such actions must not violate democratic principles or infringe on fundamental human rights.

He warned against any action capable of creating the impression of political persecution, selective justice or abuse of power.

Frank noted that El-Rufai reportedly cooperated with authorities and voluntarily made himself available for questioning, adding that such conduct should be recognised within the framework of lawful procedure.

“The fight against corruption must never override fairness, justice and due process. The rule of law remains the foundation of every democratic society,” he stated.

The former APC spokesman further appealed to civil society organisations, legal bodies and members of the international community to closely monitor developments surrounding the matter to ensure transparency and accountability.

He also called on the Nigerian Bar Association and human rights groups to continue advocating respect for constitutional rights and judicial fairness.

Frank maintained that justice must not only be carried out but must also be seen to be carried out in accordance with democratic standards and global best practices.

Political observers say the development has continued to generate public debate across the country, with many Nigerians expressing differing views on issues relating to accountability, governance and political rivalry.

The case has also renewed discussions on the importance of strong democratic institutions, judicial independence and adherence to legal procedures in the country.
