The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Idrisu Musa, for allegedly killing his elder brother, Muhammed Haruna, and his brother’s wife, Habiba Muhammed, in Asarara Village, Kebbi State.
The tragic incident, according to police authorities, occurred in the early hours of Saturday when the couple were attacked inside their home while asleep.
The victims reportedly sustained severe injuries after being assaulted with a cutlass and were confirmed dead shortly after the attack.
Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said operatives acted swiftly following reports of the incident and apprehended the suspect within the community.
He disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had previously threatened the deceased couple with a cutlass on several occasions before the fatal attack.
“The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested Idrisu Musa, 25, in connection with the murder of his elder brother Muhammed Haruna and his wife Habiba Muhammed,” the police spokesperson stated.
He added that investigators recovered “substantial and incriminating evidence” linking the suspect to the crime, while further investigations have been launched to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killings.
Residents of the area described the incident as shocking, noting that the family had not been known for any major dispute prior to the tragedy.
Police said the suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
