The United Nations has opened applications for its 2026 Online Volunteers Programme, providing individuals worldwide with a fully remote opportunity to support development initiatives while building professional skills.
The programme, implemented through the UN Volunteers Programme, allows participants to contribute to United Nations agencies, non-governmental organisations and development partners without physical relocation, thereby expanding access to volunteerism across borders.
According to information released by the UN, the initiative is open to students, graduates and working professionals who are willing to commit their time and expertise to assignments aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Volunteers will engage in a wide range of tasks, including research and data analysis, communications and social media support, translation, information technology services, graphic design and project coordination, depending on the needs of host organisations.
The UN explained that the online volunteering platform was designed to promote inclusive participation in global development while enabling individuals to gain real-world experience in a multicultural and professional environment.
Key benefits of the programme include flexible and remote volunteering arrangements, exposure to global networks, development of in-demand skills, enhancement of curriculum vitae (CV) profiles and the issuance of a UN-verified certificate upon successful completion of assignments.
The organisation added that participation in the programme also offers cultural exposure and opportunities for networking with professionals from different regions of the world.
Interested applicants are required to register and apply through the official application portal at:
